Newcastle United attacking-midfielder Haris Vuckic has been in fine form for Rangers in the Scottish Championship – in fact he has been playing so well that Greek champions Olympiakos want to sign him.
A side who feature in the Champions League on a regular basis are keen on taking Vuckic to Greece, yet the Magpies could not even find a place in their struggling squad for the midfielder.
What’s more, Vuckic has been extremely impressive throughout his time in Scotland – with the 22-year-old Slovenian international having scored nine goals and contributed three assists in 18 matches from attacking-midfield for Rangers since moving on transfer deadline day in January.
And, with just a year remaining on his Magpies contract, his future could well lie away from Tyneside – with both Nottingham Forest and Olympiakos keen on signing him.
According to equip.si, Vuckic is being targeted by Olympiakos as they look to add strength in depth to their squad so that they can attempt to progress in the Champions League next season having won a record 42nd Greek title this campaign.
Current interim head coach John Carver allowed Vuckic to go out on loan in January even though his squad was paper thin – and so if the former remains in the St James’ Park dugout then it is impossible to see the Slovenian also staying in the North East.
Vuckic is likely to move this summer – either on loan or on a permanent deal – even though he has never really been given a proper run in the Newcastle first-team side since coming up through the youth ranks.
