11-0! Impressive Matildas thrash Vietnam

National Australia women's team Matildas have issued a statement of intent before they leave for the Women’s World Cup this weekend after an 11-0 annihilation of Vietnam on Thursday night.
Despite driving rain at Jubilee Oval, a healthy crowd of 4277 turned up to farewell Alen Stajcic’s side and they were treated to an eye-catching attacking display.

Striker Michelle Heyman scored a first half hat-trick in the space of 18 minutes as the Aussies scored an incredible eight goals inside the first half an hour.

Co-captain Lisa De Vanna and pacy winger Sam Kerr finished with two each as the Matildas had seven different scorers on the night.
It was a sublime overall display by the Matildas and should ensure they head to Canada on Saturday full of confidence.
Overall this was a performance that also shows they won’t die wondering in their Group of Death at the World Cup against the might of USA, Sweden and Nigeria.
The carnage started inside seven minutes as De Vanna’s driving run and through-ball ended with Katrina Gorry’s first-time shot slipping through the fingers of Vietnam ‘keeper Dang Thi Kieu Trinh and into the net.
Heyman got her first just five minutes later and it sparked a run of five goals in just seven minutes.
Laura Alleway headed in Servat Uzunlar’s corner, De Vanna got a tap-in, Sam Kerr finished off a great move and then Heyman pounced again to make it 6-0.
Another Uzunlar corner was the route for Emily van Egmond’s goal midway through the half before Heyman completed her hat-trick on the half-hour mark.

The Matildas dominance continued early in the second half as Kerr grabbed her second with a powerful finish from a clinical van Egmond pass.
A string of substitutions after that seemed to affect the home side’s fluency and as a result the goal-scoring chances were less frequent.

But the introduction of Kyah Simon just after the hour had an immediate affect with her turn and through-ball setting up De Vanna’s goal.
The rout was completed just six minutes from time as two substitutes combined with Ashleigh Sykes cross turned home by Caitlin Foord.
Matildas 11 (Gorry 7’, Heyman 12’, 19’, 30’, Alleway 14’, De Vanna 15’, 61’, Kerr 18’, 48’, van Egmond 21’, Foord 84’)
