Ekaterini Stefanidi voted Euro Athletes of the Month

Greek pole vaulter champion Ekaterini Stefanidi and Ireland's Thomas Barr have been voted European Athletes of the Month for April.

Thomas Barr was part of the Irish 4x400m relay team that broke the national record with a time of 3:01.67 on the final day of the European Athletics Championships in Zurich.

Voting for European Athlete of the Month took place through our European Athletics Twitter and Facebook pages over the weekend. Athletes with the most combined Twitter 'retweets' and Facebook 'likes' were crowned the winners.

It was a very close vote on the women's side between Stefanidi, Sara Moreira and Dafne Schippers. But with more than 700 Facebook votes and 140 retweets and favourites Stefanidi got the win.

The Greek star managed to clear a world-leading outdoor best of 4.71m at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, USA, on 24 April.
