Olympiacos FC completed a sixth domestic double in 11 years after beating Xanthi FC 3-1 in the Greek Cup final.
Appearing in their first final, Xanthi put up a brave fight in the first half, but Olympiacos eventually made their experience count. Xanthi had caught their opponents off guard with a high pressing game and came close to an opener when Roberto produced an excellent save from Cleyton Silva's right-footed shot 26 minutes in.
Karim Soltani headed narrowly wide on the brink of half-time, moments before a defensive lapse changed the complexion of this match. Xanthi defender Manolis Bertos thought he was cushioning the ball back to his goalkeeper without any pressure until Franco Jara intercepted and slotted Olympiacos ahead.
Vítor Pereira's side went through the gears in the second half, Alejandro Domínguez finding the net with a wonder strike. Receiving the ball inside his own half, Domínguez escaped two challenges, drove towards the area and unleashed a stunning curling effort.
A third goal followed in the 80th minute, substitute Kostas Fortounis expertly converting a free-kick. Xanthi had something to show for their efforts three minutes from time, Pantelis Kapetanos making no mistake from close range but the final belonged to man on the match Domínguez.
"I'm so happy and emotional right now," he said. "
It's the best way to finish a tough season. I really enjoyed the goal - I haven't scored many of them."
