FFA set to act as Newcastle Jets owner Nathan Tinkler fails to meet salary obligations

It appears to be crunch time for the Newcastle Jets, with football officials holding crisis talks about the ongoing future of Nathan Tinkler as its owner.

Newcastle Jets players have been told the club cannot pay their monthly salaries, leaving them out of pocket for the offseson break.

It is not the first time the former coal baron Nathan Tinkler has been unable to pay players and staff, but the current scenario appears more dire than ever.

The club has told the ABC the Jets are now in talks with Football Federation Australia (FFA) about the club's ownership, with suggestions Nathan Tinkler is on the verge of being stripped of his licence.

The ABC has been told Jets CEO Mitchell Murphy has this afternoon told players they will not be paid until further notice.

FFA CEO David Gallop has described the situation as unacceptable.
