The winner of 19 grand slam titles in singles, doubles and mixed doubles, Coyne Long was a member of the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
She twice won the Australian title, first in 1952 — when she also claimed the doubles and mixed doubles crowns.
Two years later, aged 35, the Sydneysider became the oldest Australian women’s singles champion.
In all, Coyne Long captured two singles majors, 12 in doubles and five in mixed.
“It is with great sadness we mourn the loss of Australian #tennis legend and Tennis Australia Hall of Fame inductee Thelma (Coyne) Long,” Tennis Australia tweeted
A funeral service will be held in a chapel of Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park Crematorium in Matraville, New South Wales, on Monday.
