Reeling off the back of one of its worst seasons in recent memory, Panathinaikos Athens will name Aleksandar Djordjevic as its new head coach. The most successful club in Greek Basketball has struggled throughout the 2014/2015 season under the guidance of Dusko Ivanovic and was swept by arch nemesis Olympiacos in the Greek league championship series.
Hoops fans will know Djordjevic as the current tactician at the helm of the Serbian national team, he accepted the terms of Panathinaikos’ contract that was sent two days ago. He will now fly into Athens to finalize the deal before beginning his tenure with one of Europe’s powerhouse clubs.
Aleksandar Djordjevic has previously been the head coach of Armani Milan (2005-2007) and Treviso (2007/2008) in Italy’s Serie A. He is perhaps best known as a former player and built a glittering career playing guard for the likes of Real Madrid (Spain), Pesaro (Italy), Barcelona (Spain), Bologna (Italy), Partizan Belgrade (Serbia), and the Portland Trailblazers (NBA).
