FIFA WORLD RANKING Australia slipped to 61 in world rankings,

Australia mens national team (Socceroos) have slipped two places to 61 in the latest FIFA world rankings released on Thursday.

Australia came in at 59 in the previous rankings in July following their opening 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia Qualifier win over Kyrgyzstan.

The next qualifier on September 3 pits the Socceroos against Bangladesh, ranked 170th. While 158th ranked Tajikistan will face off against the Aussies later that month.

Elsewhere, Chile continued to climb, hitting the top 10 at the expense of the Netherlands who slip to 12th, down seven.

Argentina hold firm to number one, while Belgium, 2nd, swaps places with Germany, third.

Colombia remains steady in 4th spot, followed by Brazil (5th), Portugal (6th), Romania (7th) and England (8th) who all moved up one spot.

Wales continued to climb the lofty heights of global football, up one to 9th.

CONCACAF Gold Cup winners Mexico made good ground, up 14 to 26th, while surprise finalists, Jamaica, soared 21 places to 55th.

The top nations in Asia all fell in the world rankings except Iraq who rose one spot.

Iran (41) is the only national team in the AFC to crack the top 50 and is followed by Korea Republic (54th) who leapfrogs Japan (56th) into second spot. 

Australia remains the fourth highest ranked nation in Asia.

The UAE (70), Uzbekistan (76), China (79), Iraq (85), Jordan (92) and Saudi Arabia (93) round out the top 10.
